CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is a highly refined form of cannabidiol in which CBD has been separated from the wider mixture of cannabinoids, terpenes and other constituents found in a hemp extract. It is normally supplied as a crystalline powder or solid and is useful where a formulation requires a measured amount of cannabidiol without the broader extract profile associated with broad-spectrum or full-spectrum materials.

The word “isolate” describes the ingredient format rather than a health effect. A finished product made with CBD isolate can still contain many other non-hemp ingredients, such as carrier oils, waxes, botanical extracts or essential oils. The product formula and certificate of analysis therefore remain the source of truth for what is in the finished item.

In the UK, CBD isolate intended for use in foods falls within the novel-food regime. Pure CBD itself is not controlled in the same way as THC, but commercial CBD products can still be affected by rules covering controlled cannabinoids, novel foods, cosmetics and product-specific labelling. CBD isolate should therefore be understood as a technical ingredient category, not a shortcut for assuming that every product has the same regulatory status or use.
