Broad-Spectrum (Distillate) CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD is a refined hemp extract in which cannabidiol (CBD) remains the principal cannabinoid alongside selected naturally occurring compounds from the plant. It differs from CBD isolate because the extract is not reduced to cannabidiol alone, and it differs from full-spectrum CBD because the finished broad-spectrum material is formulated to remove or avoid detectable THC to the specification required by the product.

The starting material and refining process matter. Hemp extracts can contain cannabinoids, terpenes and other plant constituents in different proportions, so the phrase “broad spectrum” does not describe one fixed chemical recipe. The certificate of analysis and the individual product specification are therefore more useful than the label alone when comparing products.

In the UK, CBD extracts and isolates used in foods sit within the novel-food regulatory framework. Current government guidance should always be checked because authorisation and enforcement status can change. CBD itself is not intoxicating in the way THC is, but consumer wellness products should not be treated as equivalent to licensed medicines or as evidence that a particular health outcome is guaranteed.
